As a physician and researcher whose work has been shaped by years of listening to how people speak when they try to articulate what matters most, I observed a recurring phenomenon: speakers often return to the same word forms, yet the identities carried by those forms shift in patterned, structurally constrained ways that sign-based theories cannot fully capture. This insight led him to develop a new account of language a model called Bidirectional Discretization.
