Description
Ever since the Paris Agreement came into being the focus has shifted on climate targets and reducing the global temperature. Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) forayed as an accelerator for countries to embark upon not just target setting but also implementation of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures so that near term and long term targets can be set for countries to level up with the agreement negotiated. In order to enable NDCs Implementation strong policies, procedural modalities and processes are required with equivocal capacities and capabilities on part of the countries and its climate team leadership. Development of self- sufficiency and self-reliance to infuse and achieve climate targets is also one of the priority nexus. Enabling geopolitical governance willingness, responsibility and accountability to plan, prepare and evaluate the effectiveness of current climate targets and impacts and accordingly prepare strategies for first developing local led contributions as are the local led adaptation plans of UNFCCC and then structurally infuse nationally determined contributions. These contributions should determine the focus risk proofing and assessment strategy so that accordingly implementation measures with measurement, monitoring and management for climate change action shall be embraced otherwise NDCs updation shall be year after year futile exercise by countries without can achievements or benchmarking of best practices.
