Description

Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is an advanced non-traditional machining process widely used for producing complex shapes, intricate profiles, and precision components that are difficult to manufacture using conventional machining methods. This book presents an experimental investigation of the EDM process using Aluminium Alloy 6061 (AL6061) as an electrode material. The study focuses on understanding the machining behaviour and evaluating the influence of important process parameters on machining performance.    The experimental investigation considers key EDM parameters such as discharge current, pulse-on time, pulse-off time, and other operating conditions, while evaluating responses including material removal rate (MRR), tool wear rate (TWR), and surface roughness. The work provides a systematic approach to conducting experiments, recording observations, analyzing experimental data, and interpreting the relationship between input parameters and machining responses.    Special attention is given to the suitability and performance of AL6061 as an electrode material, considering its machining characteristics, thermal properties, electrical conductivity, and practical applicability. Experimental results are analyzed to identify suitable machining conditions and understand the effect of process parameters on the overall performance of EDM.  This book will be useful for undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, faculty members, and manufacturing professionals working in advanced manufacturing and non-traditional machining. It provides a practical foundation for understanding EDM experimentation and supports further research and development in precision manufacturing.
