Description

Pharmacogenomics from the Archipelago: Redefining Modern Medicine and Pharmacy Practice in Indonesia was born out of an academic, professional, and personal recognition of the growing intersection between genetics and therapeutic outcomes in everyday clinical practice. As a lecturer and researcher in pharmacy and biotechnology, We have witnessed firsthand the rising interest in precision medicine and the urgent need for locally adapted, evidence-based frameworks. Indonesia’s extraordinary ethnic and genetic diversity, spread across more than 17,000 islands, offers not only challenges but unmatched opportunities for pharmacogenomic innovation. With the rise of genomic initiatives, an expanding base of diagnostics providers, and regulatory interest in personalized care, the moment to act is now. Yet, despite this momentum, there has been no comprehensive academic reference tailored to the Indonesian context. This book aims to fill that gap. The content is structured to support a broad audience: undergraduate and graduate students in pharmacy, medicine, and health sciences; clinical practitioners seeking actionable insights; policymakers and health administrators involved in health system reform; and researchers who aim to localize pharmacogenomic science to Southeast Asia’s most dynamic archipelago. Each chapter builds conceptually from molecular foundations to clinical integration, and from education reform to national innovation ecosystems. It is our hope that this book will not only educate, but also inspire a new generation of pharmacists, clinicians, scientists, and policy leaders committed to building a future where every prescription is informed by genetics, every therapy is optimized for the individual, and every citizen has equitable access to precision medicine.
