Description

As stroke is a leading global health problem and one of the foremost causes of mortality, morbidity and long-term disability, a study was conducted to assess the prevalence of hyperhomocysteinemia and vitamin deficiency (B6, B12, and folate) in stroke patients from the North-Eastern part of the country which suggested that the prevalence of hyperhomocysteinemia is high in this population sample and hyperhomocysteinemia and folate deficiency were associated with haemorrhagic stroke.  As reference values are used by clinicians for interpretation of the results which are commonly based on reference of the Western population, we evaluated the reference values of lipid profile and uric acid of Indian Assamese population. The respective median and range obtained can be used as the reference values based on which clinical correlation can be realized. In another study, the association of venepuncture induced stress with elevation of serum prolactin was investigated as stress was identified as a cause of transient hyperprolactinemia. An increase in the prolactin level was observed in response to venepuncture, and a period of 60 min rest and relaxation resulted in significant reduction in the serum prolactin level.  Lately, copper in nano-platforms have drawn significant attention because of their natural abundance and affordability in addition to their other unique properties. Therefore, a copper-based nanomaterial was developed for biomedical applications in cancer chemotherapy, annihilation of a wide range of clinical isolates including multi drug resistant organisms, point-of-use water filtration, and wound healing.
