Verbal Closure Dynamics began from an unusual observation during my medical training: people used so-called auxiliaries and “helper verbs” as if they belonged to a closed operator system, not merely to ordinary word classes. HAVE, BE, DO, and the modals seemed to organize verbal meaning through layers of contact, repair, and external force. VCD developed from that intuition into a theory of the verb span as a one-wall closure architecture.
