Description

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has emerged as one of the most significant development initiatives in the region, positioning Pakistan as a key hub of regional economic integration. Within this framework, Special Economic Zones (SEZs) have played a vital role in promoting foreign and domestic investment, generating employment opportunities, and strengthening financial stability. These developments have further contributed to infrastructural expansion, technological advancement, human capital development, and broader fiscal reforms in the host country. This study explores the socio-economic impact of SEZs on local communities, focusing specifically on how residents perceive these developments under the CPEC initiative. Employing a quantitative research design, data was collected through a structured interview schedule to assess both social and economic dimensions of change. The target population consisted of villagers residing near the industrial zone in District Faisalabad, with Tehsil Chak Jhumra selected purposively due to its designation as a Special Economic Zone area. The research aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the direct socio-economic effects of SEZs on local populations. It highlights both positive and negative perceptions of residents, offering a realistic picture of how development initiatives under CPEC are experienced at the grassroots level. By addressing existing gaps in literature, this study contributes to a clearer understanding of the lived realities of communities affected by industrial and economic transformation in Pakistan.
