Description

While Corporate Social Responsibility is now a well-established paradigm in developed economies, its adoption and adaptation in emerging countries remain largely unexplored. This book fills that gap by offering an in-depth, empirically grounded analysis of CSR in Algeria – a country undergoing significant economic transformation. Focusing on the agri-food sector, a cornerstone of the national economy, the author examines how Algerian companies engage with CSR across governance, labour practices, environmental protection, and community development. Through a series of case studies – from industrial giants like Cevital to SMEs and foreign subsidiaries – the book reveals a complex and hybrid CSR landscape, where voluntary philanthropic initiatives coexist with regulatory compliance and international standardization pressures. The author also analyses the institutionalization of CSR in Algeria, highlighting the role of IANOR, the adoption of ISO 26000, and the regional RS-MENA program. Despite structural constraints, the findings show that Algerian companies are progressively embracing CSR, driven as much by the personal ethics of business leaders as by market pressures and globalization. This book is essential reading for researchers, students, practitioners, and policymakers interested in CSR, sustainable development, and the economic dynamics of the MENA region. Keywords: CSR – ISO 26000 – Algeria – Agri-Food Sector – Stakeholder Theory – Governance – Sustainable Development – Institutionalization – Algeria
